    Research

Our research started by fully mapping out the existing program and reviewing competitor programs. We then conducted interviews and a survey to better understand what users liked, and where they were experiencing pain points.

While most users were comfortable connecting their email and Amazon accounts to ReceiptPal, there was a real lack of understanding around their account connection status. Users were also very motivated to refer friends to the ReceiptPal app for extra rewards.

    My core tasks included:

  • Competitive analysis
  • Existing app audit
  • Stakeholder meetings to gather key business requirements
  • Quantitative survey
  • User interviews
  • UX & Strategy

With a user acquisition push in the plans, this update was a good chance to modernize the UI. We sought to simplify the ReceiptPal architecture by moving main app sections into a familiar tab bar interaction. Working towards our core goal of informing users to connect their email accounts, we also added signifiers throughout the app to notify them of their connection status.

    Flows & wires included:

  • Reorganizing of the app architecture
  • Clarify Amazon and email account connection
  • Differentiating between new user account creation and existing user sign in
  • Adapting rewards for the updated program
  • User flow and wireframes for the new refer a friend feature
  • Revised onboarding to reflect the new experience
  • Design

We gave the app a bolder look with more illustrations and animations, but maintained the familiarity of the card interface for existing users. The redesign also gave us an opportunity to assess the app styles and create a higher level of consistency in the design.

    My core tasks included:

  • Overall app design refresh
  • Reorganizing app style sheets for development
  • New icons & illustrations
  • Minigame designs & animations
  • Usability testing of new design
  • Marketing

To reach our acquisition goals, we designed a social media campaign informing users about what ReceiptPal is and how it can help them get rewarded. We created static and animated ads for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Motion was an important key to success, driving more downloads than the static visuals.

    My core tasks included:

  • Fully redesigned App Store and Play Store assets
  • Animated and static ads
  • Active updates to meet campaign needs
  • Key updates
Easier & more fun to use
  • A redesigned home streamlines adding receipts
  • Rotating minigames for extra rewards
  • Resubmitting rejected receipts within the app
  • Error handling for account connection status
  • Zendesk help integration
  • Get rewarded faster
  • Greater incentives for connecting email accounts
  • Get points for referring friends
  • Updated UI prompts users to complete account tasks to receive rewards
